What Is Storj?

Storj is a blockchain-based decentralized cloud storage network. Unlike traditional cloud providers, Storj doesn’t rely on a single centralized server. Instead, it utilizes a global network of independent nodes, each contributing storage capacity to the network.

The data circulating through Storj is peer-to-peer encrypted, meaning that the files are encrypted on the sender’s device before they are sent. Storj was founded in Atlanta in 2014. The company founder is the software developer Shawn Wilkinson. He and a seasoned business developer with a bank investment background, John Quinn created the first Storj white paper the same year. After a series of tweaks, the redefined white paper saw the light of day in 2019. The CEO of the project is Ben Golub. After the successful crowdsale the platform was launched in 2014.
